| 2004 | Avant | Gwyther says... |  We currently own a VW Toureg V8, a Porsche Boxster, a Ford Mustang GT, a Jeep Wrangler 4.0 and an Audi S4 avant. In the past I have also had 2 911's and a Subaru Impreza STI. I can safely say without any doubt that the S4 is the best car I have ever owned. Living in the UK with expensive fast cars is a recipe for very heavy fines and plenty of points. In the real world there isnt much point in having a Ferrari (as my wife keeps telling me). They depreciate like lead bricks, they cost a fortune in garage bills and insurance and you attract too much attention whilst driving them. The Boxster is a fantastic car, cheapish, convertable, quick and handles really well. Perfect for that summertime dash to the coast for a few days. The Touareg is our winter vehicle, (along with the Jeep) excellent on the inside with nav system and heated leather seats, and very quiet on the motorway with plenty of power for overtaking and drifting off road in the snow! Also it eats up motorways over here effortlessly. The impreza I had was an STI 2002 model. This was probably the best car I had ever driven. Quick, planted it handled like a gocart and went like a bullet. This was a really usable everyday fun car. Unfortunately, the turbo noise, the loud exhast, the lack of boot space, and the terrible, terrible, terrible interior, not to mention the bizzare looks of the thing meant it was not quite right so it went this year.,,Now the S4 Avant has all the qualities of the above cars. It has the power and handeling of the Subaru and Boxster, the boot space of the Touareg, a silly top speed, but with low noise, and exquisite comfort thrown in. You can pack the family in it and drive for 1000 miles, and get out at the other end feeling relaxed/ Or you can take yourself off to the track and blast around, knacker yourself out, ruin a set of tyres and come home with a big grin. I am 30 years old and live in New Jersey in the US by the way, so dont really have to worry about petrol prices, and have a 5 car garage to keep the things in. I used to be into bikes but had an accident hence the fast cars instead.  |
